A Brief Introduction to the Ritop School

Student at work in the vinyl shopAddressing mobile electronics retailers’ growing need for professional installers, Richard Inferrera, a 40-year industry veteran, founded The Ritop School in 1985 to educate and prepare installers for a career in an exciting, fast-growing industry. Since its inception, the school has become the leading mobile electronics training facility in North America, graduating over 100 installers each year from its Watertown, MA location.

Over 20 years later, our mission remains the same. Our courses offer a strong foundation for installers and enthusiasts alike as they enter or grow in this fast-paced industry. Our classroom instruction provides students with the fundamentals of electrical and acoustical theory, while our hands-on shop projects teach custom fabrication and advanced installation skills on real vehicles. In fact, we dedicate 50% of our students’ instruction time to real-world installs in our full-service bays.

To further enhance the students’ classroom experience, we offer a complete selection of hand tools, power tools and special-purpose tools, as well as dedicated woodworking, paint, fiberglass and vinyl shops where students can build custom enclosures, interior trim, and dash pieces.

Other advantages of the Ritop School include its experienced staff, a curriculum that encompasses the entire automotive electronics industry, the opportunity to earn a nationally-recognized MECP certification on-site, and career development skills training for interviewing and resume writing. Students also have access to a full library of video training tapes, technical manuals and computer programs that they will likely encounter in the real world. To further enhance the learning experience, manufacturer representatives, technical advisors and product engineers frequently serve as guest instructors.

The Ritop School is geared towards newcomers to the industry, and no prior work experience is necessary. We welcome students who have a strong desire to learn and become efficient at high-quality installation and fabrication. By the end of our eight week course, students are ready to begin their careers, and our job placement program will even help them find work – anywhere in the country.

Upon completion of the Ritop program, students are able to demonstrate fundamental knowledge of electronics theory as well as techniques of quality installation in a variety of vehicles. All graduates receive a Ritop diploma as well as a MECP Basic Installer certificate. The Ritop School is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Education and is approved to accept VA benefits.
